Acronis True Image 2014

Most users consider modern backup technologies a universal key to all issues and problems related to data loss or damage.

It is not surprising at all. Whatever may happen to your personal files or operating system, you can easily restore them just by pressing one button. There are lots of different softwares for backup and recovery, the question is which one you will prefer. I do prefer Acronis True Image. This program has been my faithful friend and protector over the last three years.

My personal computer practice has proved the fact that today Acronis True Image is one of the most reliable and effective tools for data backup. I believe the new version of program, which was released under the name of Acronis True Image 2014, will remain the most remarkable product on the market for the following reasons.

Firstly, the application is fully compatible with Windows 8, supports different types of media (DVD, GPT-drives, flash drives, NAS-drives), big sized hard disks (2TBs and more) You can also synchronize data between two or more computers.

Secondly, it has the function of continuous data protection, the possibility to view backup before recovery, the virtualization of backup images, which allows to view backup contents in Windows Explorer, a temporary “freeze” of the operating system and allows to create bootable disks for recovery.

Thirdly, it not only supports dynamic disks but also restores a computer operating system of a different hardware configuration. If a computer or a hard disk is damaged, all your data as well as the operating system itself can safely be moved to a new PC.

New functions in Acronis True Image 2014

The new package has not changed significantly. The changes, detailed rather than global, are mostly related to the user interface, for example, the settings window for backup and recovery has become more optimized.

Although a set of general functions has not changed either, the difference between the previous and new versions of Acronis True Image is still evident. The developers of Acronis True Image 2014 have focused their attention on its integration with cloud storage. The ability to save the backup to the ’cloud’ was already realized in its earlier versions, but not in such a manner and with such obvious advantages. Acronis True Image 2014 provides 5 GB of available disk space to a cloud for free; you can get up to 250 GB for an extra fee, which is enough to save at least 5 full backups of the operating systems like Windows 7, or 8.

It should be stressed that backup is performed in Acronis own cloud, which was developed by Acronis Cloud, Acronis affiliated company fully supported by True Image. If your system appears to be damaged and fails to start, you can always connect to Acronis Cloud and perform incremental or full recovery of the system partition.

Acronis True Image 2014 supports full and incremental backup of an operating system, as well as individual files and folders, storing them either on local and removable drives or to cloud storage, and supports incremental restoration of individual files and folders from cloud storage.

Among the benefits of cloud solutions are a guaranteed data access from anywhere in the world as well as an ability to exchange data with other users. Data exchange is always done via an encrypted TLS channel. In addition there is a possibility of backup encryption using AES 256 encryption algorithm. In case of a network connection break Acronis True Image will be able to find the point of network connection break and to continue data exchange exactly from that point when the network connection is restored.

As to the recovery from the cloud, there are three possible options. The first option is to download the files via the web interface, using your own or another computer. The second option is to restore a computer to the previous state. In this case, the incremental restore will be used. This method is suitable for recovery of users’ data as well as system partition. In the last case, for obvious reasons, recovery will be done inside the Acronis True Image environment. The third option is the most complicated one. It involves restoring system and users’ data at a new hard drive or computer.

Conclusion

Does it make sense to switch to the new version? The answer is definitely ‘yes’, if you are a fan of cloud technologies and prefer to store personal data to the cloud storage. In other cases it is also good to switch to the new version to have a possibility of using cloud storage in the future.
